Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “ıvır zıvır sindirilebilirler”) tanımlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine bağlamlanmasıyla oluşan kısaca polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino asit lakırtııntısı ile başkası arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” veya peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (veya çok adetda polipeptit zir birimi çitndırır). Anayasa başkalık peptitlerin kısaca, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi esnasında her amino asit, öbür amino asite temelli, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle bağlamlanır. Polipeptid kuruluşsına tıkızlan amino asitlerin her biri kuruluşya peptid bağlamlarıyla bağlamlanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu esnasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir su çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Yaklaşık bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Bilinen en uzun polipeptit, yaklaşık 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda bulunan “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine tıkızlan amino asitlere lakırtııntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki lakırtııntı, bağ yapmamış, hür amino grubu çitndırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin öbür ucundaki hür α-karboksil grubu olan lakırtııntıevet C ucu adı verilir.
